Who we are
This policy covers the Bombay Institute Android app (package in.edu.bombayinstitute.student), run by
Bombay Institute, Bombay House, 6th Lane, Near Patel Park, Abohar, Punjab, India. The app is built and looked after for the institute by
RAG ERP Solutions, who work on the institute's behalf and only for the purposes below.
For anything about your data: info@bombayinstitute.edu.in, phone +91 9807225000.
What the app collects
| What | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Your name and mobile number | To make your account and tell accounts apart. The mobile number is your login. | When you create an account |
| Your password | To let you sign in. We never store the password itself: only a one-way scrambled form (a bcrypt hash) that cannot be turned back into it. | When you create or change it |
| Your board and class (CBSE / PSEB / RBSE, class 10-12), if you choose them | To show the right school practice first | At sign-up, optional |
| What you do in the app: questions you answer and whether they were right, tests you take with their scores and times, questions you save, exams you pin, your daily goal and your study days | To mark your tests, show your progress, find the chapters you need to practise and keep your streak | While you use the app |
| Contest entries and results | To run the contests the institute schedules and rank the entrants | When you join one |
| Technical details of each request to our server (time, which page, your internet address) | To keep the service secure and working | Every time the app talks to the server |
The Jobs list needs no account and records nothing about you except the technical details in the last row.
What the app does not collect
No location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or files. No advertising ID. The app has no advertisements and no analytics or crash-reporting tools from other companies.
What is kept on your phone
Your login token (in the phone's secure storage), your profile so the app can open offline, and answers or a running test that have not been sent yet. Signing out removes the token; deleting your account removes all of it.
Who can see it and who we share it with
- Institute staff who approve accounts and help students (they see your name, number, board, class and status).
- RAG ERP Solutions, which maintains the platform.
- Your data is stored in a database on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in India (Hyderabad) and served from an Oracle Cloud server. They store it for us; they do not use it for their own purposes.
We do not sell your data, do not share it for advertising, and do not give it to anyone else, except where the law requires it.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your account and study data until you delete your account or ask us to.
- In the app: Me → Delete my account. You type your password; the account and everything recorded for it are deleted at once.
- Without the app: see how to ask us to delete your account, or write to the contact above from the number you registered with.
Regular database backups are overwritten automatically on a rolling schedule; deleted data is not restored from them.
Security
Everything travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Passwords are stored only as hashes. Each account is checked and approved by the institute before it can use the practice features, and repeated wrong passwords lock the account for a short time.
Children and students under 18
The app is meant for students aged 13 and over, and most of our students are in classes 10 to 12. We ask only for what the app needs. If you are under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian knows you are using the app. A parent or guardian may contact us at any time to see, correct or delete their child's data.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the contact above. If we cannot settle a complaint, you may write to the Data Protection Board of India once it is operating.
